According to the Milken Institute, the Charlottesville Metropolitan area (MSA) has one of the strongest markets for growing and maintaining jobs, and is One of the Best Performing Cities in the country. The survey ranks our area 14th out of the 179 smallest metropolitan areas of the nation, and up from our ranking of 20th in 2010. Charlottesville ranks as the highest small market in the state of Virginia.

According to the site:

"The 2011 Milken Institute Best-Performing Cities Index ranks U.S. metropolitan areas by how well they are creating and sustaining jobs and economic growth. The components include job, wage and salary, and technology growth. In most years, these give a good indication of the underlying structural performance of regional economics."
