UVA Children’s Hospital Breaks Ground

UVA Children’s Hospital Breaks Ground

Posted: June 9, 2011

UVA leaders hosted a groundbreaking ceremony June 9th for the Battle Building at UVA Children’s Hospital. Preparatory work – including a fence around the site and rerouting traffic on the adjoining portion of West Main Street – is under way.

The Battle Building will consolidate children’s outpatient services in a family-centered setting. The new 200,000-square-foot facility will enable pediatric specialists to provide comprehensive care for children coping with complex illnesses such as cancer and cerebral palsy. The services provided at the new facility will help bridge the care patients receive at UVA Children’s Hospital with the care their families can provide at home. The building will also include an outpatient surgery center for adults and children as well as the Teen Health Center.

The project is being managed by the UVA Foundation in partnership with UVA Facilities Management. The project design began over three years ago and construction completion is scheduled for Spring, 2014. It is named for Barry and Bill Battle, longtime advocates for children’s healthcare in Central Virginia.
