Claire
Hume is the Director of Financial Services at the University of Virginia
Foundation. She has been with the Foundation for the past 11 years. Over
that time period the assets of the Foundation have grown from $75 million
to over $400 million. Claire developed accounting systems to accommodate
this growth. In 2003, the Foundation began a market based system of charging
for services rendered which allows the Foundation to be self-supporting.
Recently, the Foundation undertook a large financing to include the issuance
of tax-exempt variable rate bonds. She is responsible for all financial
aspects of the Foundation and its subsidiaries.
Claire taught accounting for four years at the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce. Prior to working at the Foundation, Claire was in a private CPA practice in Charlottesville which focused on auditing non-profit organizations. She received
a Bachelors of Science degree in accounting from the University of Virginia's
McIntire School of Commerce and a Masters of Science degree in accounting
from the University of Virginia Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
She has been a Certified Public Accountant for over 15 years and is an
active member of the Virginia Society of CPA's. Claire has been married
to Keith Hume, for 34 years. Two of her children are presently attending
college and her eldest daughter has already graduated from college and
is working outside of Washington, D.C. |
