The
University of Virginia enters the 21st century
as one of the most distinguished public universities in the nation.
Holding fast to educational principles described by Thomas Jefferson
almost 200 years ago, the University of Virginia Foundation supports
the University's efforts to maintain this distinction by providing
innovative, yet prudent management of some of the University's real
estate holdings and by supplying professional real estate services
to the University's Office of Development.
Additionally,
the Foundation provides administrative and investment services to
other University-related foundations. It is also the parent corporation
to the University of Virginia Real Estate Foundation, the Historic
Renovation Corporation, the University of Virginia Host Properties
(Boar's Head Inn and Birdwood Golf Course), and the Meadow Creek
Corporation (Cavalier Inn).
The
composition of the Foundation's board ensures that it will always
act to further the aims of the University. Chaired by the Rector
of the Board of Visitors, the Foundation board includes selected
members of the University's Board of Visitors, the president and
several senior members of the University administration, as well
as distinguished members of the public.
The Foundation's mission is:
 |
To
provide administrative services to University entities, University-related
foundations, or other entities involved in activities in support
of the University. |
 |
To
engage in matters pertaining to real property for the benefit
of the University. To that end, the Foundation shall engage
in real estate activities for one or more of the following reasons:
to support the University's primary programs; to provide an
investment return; to provide for the real estate needs of the
University for the next 100 years; and to improve the University's
boundaries and entrances. |
 |
To
use and administer gifts, grants, bequests, and devices for
the benefit of the University. |
